Our partner Arkema, which has many years of experience with high-performance materials for medical applications, is now announcing the introduction of a new high-strength medical polymer made from Advanced Bio-Circular Polyamide 11, which is intended to replace metal and traditional polymers in demanding medical applications. Arkema's Advanced Bio-Circular (ABC) materials have long been proven in some of the world's most demanding applications. These bio-based, recyclable polymers are derived from Arkema's leading amino 11 chemistry, which in turn is derived from renewable castor bean oil. The castor bean is not in direct competition with the food chain and does not cause deforestation. With this new product, we have found an ideal material for our surgical instruments that is easier to process than the PARA (polyarylamide) we used before. Its bio-based nature has given us a real advantage in meeting our customers' desire for more sustainable materials. Arkema continues to innovate to provide sustainable and recyclable materials based on our polyamide 11 patent for the most demanding and challenging markets. Our medical technology customers are increasingly committed to sustainability, and Arkema is well positioned to successfully help them transition to renewable materials and achieve their goals of reducing the use of natural resources.
